The holiday season is officially upon us! Will you be having company over the next few weeks? If so, you may want to take some steps to make sure that things go smoothly between your visitors and your dog. Not everyone is as fond of our canine companions as we are! Ground Rules
If your guests are staying over, you may want to ask them to keep the guest room door closed. That way, you don’t have to worry about Fido sleeping on their bed or chewing up their shoes.
Petiquette
Sometimes people take it upon themselves to correct bad doggy behavior. This can be problematic, especially if they are too harsh. Ask guests not to discipline your furry friend. Of course, if Fido is being a bit pushy, you’ll need to address the issue yourself.
Feeding Time
If we know one thing for certain about our four-legged buddies, it’s that they are very good at convincing us to share our food. If Fido has a begging habit, you may want to keep him in a separate area during meals. Begging is not only bad petiquette, it can also be dangerous. Good Impressions
Make sure Fido puts his best paw forward! Before your guests arrive, give your furry friend a good bath and clip his nails. It’s also a good idea to do some de-furring before your company arrives. Dust and vacuum thoroughly, and change your air filters. You’ll also want to wash your pet’s toys and bedding.
Doggy Workout
Is your canine companion a four-legged bundle of zoom? Walks and play sessions will help your pup burn off some of that excess energy. Afterwards, Fido will be calmer and better behaved.
Crate
Used properly, crates can provide a comfy little den for dogs to retreat to. If Fido is crate trained, consider crating him at certain times, such as during meals or when people are coming or going. Make the crate comfy by adding bedding and some toys.
