Things Dogs Are Grateful For

With Thanksgiving around the corner, one can expect to see lots of seasonal products and decorations with the words Thanks and Gratitude on them. Thanksgiving can be a great reminder of how important it is to be grateful for what we do have. That list definitely includes pets! If Fido could list the things he is thankful for, what do you think would be on it? A Frisco, TX vet offers some ‘petucated’ guesses below.

Food

We can’t blame Fido for this one: we’re pretty grateful for food as well! While your furry pal may happily gobble up anything you put in his bowl, it’s important to make sure he’s getting proper nutrition. Offer your pooch a high-quality dog food, one that’s appropriate for his age, size, and health.

Toys

Playing is lots of fun for dogs but it’s also good for them, both mentally and physically. Pick up a new toy for Fido, and take time to indulge him in a fun play session. Before dinner, this will allow him to work off excess energy. After dinner, it may help you get through that food coma.

Belly Rubs

Our canine buddies love being petted, and many of them aren’t shy about asking for attention. One of the cutest ways Fido does this is just by flipping over and exposing his furry belly. Indulge these adorable requests for cuddles and affection!

Treats

Treats will definitely brighten up Fido’s day. Just don’t go overboard: they really shouldn’t comprise more than about 5 percent of your dog’s daily caloric intake. If you want to give your pup a special holiday treat, offer him some plain, cooked turkey without the skin, bones, or fat.

Adventures

Dogs love exploring new places. It’s always just cute seeing how happy Fido gets when he’s checking out a trail or park. Just put Fido’s safety first. Keep your canine pal leashed whenever you take him off your property. Your pooch should also be fixed, microchipped, wearing ID tags, and current on vaccines and parasite control.

You

Fido definitely appreciates the love and care you give him. Spend some quality time with your furry best friend! The love and friendship pets offer us is truly precious, and something we should all be grateful for.
