Critical Care

Do you know who to call in the event of a pet emergency?

As a loving pet parent, you never want to see your four-legged family member in distress. Unfortunately, unexpected illnesses and sudden accidents can occur at any time. The way you handle these types of situations can make all the difference in the world for your loved one. At Coit Hedgcoxe Animal Hospital, we want you to know that you’ve got a dedicated team in your corner. You can rest easy knowing that we’ll be there for you in your time of need.

Our hospital is equipped to provide life-saving critical care at a moment’s notice. With staff members who are experienced in emergency medicine, we can quickly diagnose the problem and deliver the most timely and effective care. Most importantly, we will handle your companion’s case with the utmost compassion, doing everything within our power to achieve a positive outcome.

Some of the signs that your pet may require urgent medical attention include:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Ingestion of a foreign object or toxic substance
  • Broken bones
  • Cuts, lacerations or puncture wounds
  • Vomiting or diarrhea lasting longer than 24 hours
  • Bleeding
  • Trauma, such as a fall or being hit by a car
  • Swollen or tender abdomen
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Lameness
  • Disorientation
  • Foaming at the mouth
  • Convulsions/seizures
  • Loss of consciousness

If you notice your companion exhibiting any of these signs, it’s time to call for help right away. At Coit Hedgcoxe Animal Hospital, we always recommend calling ahead when an emergency occurs. This allows us to evaluate the situation and provide first aid instructions over the phone. It also lets us prepare the hospital and other team members for your pet’s arrival. Of course, should the nature of your pet’s emergency not allow time for a phone call, don’t hesitate to come directly in for immediate attention.

We sincerely hope you never experience the need for urgent veterinary care. If you do, however, we want you to know who to call. The team at Coit Hedgcoxe Animal Hospital will be here to provide the highest level of care available. You can count on us!

I’m so thankful for all the staff. Tomorrow Chad is coming to my car to get Pig for his kennel cough and ears cleaned. My visa is on file so during this time of coronavirus I don’t put myself or anyone else at risk. Thank you staff.

Dr. Michalk is very knowledgeable with many years of experience and has a great bedside manner with her clients and their owners! She takes her time to examine, evaluate and assess your fur baby and explains what is or could be going on with your pet. She always throughly explains her plan of care. There are many veterinarians in Texas but only one Dr. Shelley Michalk who gives the best veterinary care!!! This is why me & my mom drive from Austin to Plano...just to receive her expertise and loving veterinary care!!! Thank you Dr. Michalk for all that you do for each of your clients and their owners!
