Cute Ways To Keep Your Dog Cool This Summer

Texas isn’t exactly known for balmy summers. It can get sweltering hot around here at this time of year. This can be a serious concern for dog owners. Fido can overheat very quickly in hot weather! We can help! Read on as a local Frisco, TX vet lists some ways to keep your furry pal cool.

Water

The best thing you can do to keep your four-legged friend from overheating is to make sure he always has fresh water. If you have a yard for your pup to run and play in, offer him water bowls both outside and inside. Also, always bring water along with you if you take your dog off your property.

Cold Treats

Fido is always adorable when he knows he’s getting a snack. Score some extra tail wags by getting your pooch a cold treat. You can find doggy ice cream in stores, or make your own. You can also make your canine pal some pupsicles, or other frozen snacks. Look online for recipe ideas.

Cooling Vest

Another way to help your furry friend beat the heat is to get him a doggy cooling vest. Just be sure to get the right size! Also, don’t leave Fido unattended with his vest on: you don’t want him getting caught on anything.

Swimming

Swimming can be just as fun for dogs as it is for people. However, not all pups take to water like furry ducks. If your pooch doesn’t know how to swim, it’s worth your while to teach him. Just be sure to put safety first. Rule #1: never leave your pet alone near water! If you take him to a pool, immediately show him how to get out. If Fido can’t swim, get him a kiddie pool, or just let him play in the spray from a hose or sprinkler.

Grooming

Be sure to keep up with your dog’s grooming needs! Some pups will be more comfortable with a summer ‘do! Ask your vet for recommendations.

Cool Bed

You may want to get your canine companion a cot bed. These are raised off the ground a bit, which helps them stay cooler. You can also put a frozen towel or a cool water bottle in Fido’s bed.
