Respecting Your Cat

March 28 is a pretty big day for kitties: it’s Respect Your Cat Day. Of course, kitties demand—and deserve—to be respected every day. But how do you keep your feline overlord content? A local Plano, TX vet offers a few suggestions in this article.

Scratching

Fluffy’s nail-care habits are often a source of tension between her and her humans. It can be frustrating to find that your pet is shredding your new sofa or damaging your carpet. However, kitties don’t deliberately set out to ruin your things. In the wild, cats depend on their claws for survival. Understandably, they are instinctively driven to keep their nails sharp. Offer your furball a good manicure station.

Entertainment

One reason that cats make such cute pets is the fact that they’re so sleepy. Fluffy will spend most of her time snoozing. However, she’ll still need entertainment options. Make sure your cute pet has lots of toys to pounce on, and play with her regularly. Kitties also appreciate having things to investigate, like boxes, paper bags, and newspaper tunnels. A good window view is also a must.

Nutrition

Proper nutrition is a cornerstone to a good cat care regimen. Pay attention to the quality of your kitty’s food. It can be tricky sorting out what brands are best. Ask your vet for specific advice, including serving sizes and suitable snacks.

Veterinary Care

Given the option, Fluffy would probably knock this one right off the list. Regardless of her opinion on the matter, she’ll be much healthier—and therefore happier—with proper care. Keep up with your kitty’s appointments!

Safety

Cats certainly have a knack for getting into mischief. Take a few precautions to keep your tiny lion safe and sound. Petproofing will help a lot, and is particularly important with kittens. We also recommend keeping Fluffy inside.

Commitment

When you adopt a kitty, you’re promising to care for her for the rest of her natural life. This is a big decision, and not one to take lightly. Don’t adopt a new cat unless you’re really ready for that commitment. Adoption is forever!

Love

At the end of the day, there’s really only one way to get that motor going: make Fluffy feel loved. Talk to your feline pal, pet her, and play with her. Purrs are truly precious!
